75,144 Children Immunized during Sub National Immunization Day (SNID) Polio Round

 

Chandigarh, June 17, 2019: 75,144 children’s were immunized during two days of Sub National Immunization Day (SNID) Polio Round held on 16th and 17th June, 2019 in UT Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, the dream city of India's first Prime Minister, Sh. Jawahar Lal Nehru, was planned by the famous French architect Le Corbusier is catering the populations of approx 10.55 lakhs. The basic geographical area of Chandigarh is 114 sq kms. Union Territory of Chandigarh was declared as the polio free city in year 2006.

To maintain Polio free status in Union Territory of Chandigarh, Sub National Immunization Round (SNID) Polio June 2019 was scheduled in U.T. Chandigarh on 16th and 17th June, 2019 and it was a two days House – to – House activity which was conducted to focus on High Risk areas/ vulnerable areas only.

Irrespective of heat waves and killing summer weather, teams of Health Department and volunteers from various organizations  visited the vulnerable areas like Khuda Lahora, Khuda Jassu, Sarangpur, Resettlement Colony Dhanas, Kaimbwala, Maloya, Daddumajra, Madrasi Colony, Indira Colony,  Vikas Nagar, Manimajra, Colony no 4, Faidan, Ramdarbar, Palsora, Behlana, Raipur Khurd, Kajheri, Kishangarh, Tin colony, Janta Colony, Shastri Nagar and all the construction sites to immunize the kids with pulse polio drops.

Approximate 330 no of children had been immunized in the night hours during “TAARE ZAMEEN PAR”- A NIGHT VIGIL activity in different parts of the city on 16th June, 2019. To execute this activity, six teams were constituted comprising of Male and Female Medical Officers, Male health functionaries and Police Personnel. This activity was carried out with support and cooperation of Police Department.

Stringent monitoring & supervision was done at various levels by the internal supervisors & external monitors. Dr. G. Dewan, Director Health & Family Welfare cum Mission Director NHM appreciated the efforts and motivation of all the volunteers who participated in this campaign and thanked all the teams for their tireless efforts.
